Acne

Acne

Acne is the eruption of skin, which contains a high number of sebaceous follicles and is characterized by scaly red skin, blackheads, pinheads, pimples, and large papules. It mostly affects the face, upper part of the chest, and the back. If untreated at an early stage, it can become inflammatory and itchy and can possibly leave long-lasting scars. More

How acne develops?

Acne is caused by the body’s increased production of the hormone androgen, which stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. A normal hair and sebaceous gland can become partially blocked. Bacteria called P. Acne live on the sebum and produce fatty acids. The body responds by blocking the gland’s exit to the skin. Sometimes the mixture of hair protein, oil and fatty acids damages the walls of the follicle and causes inflammation.

Acne usually develops during the teens and often continues into adulthood. Some of the reasons for the development of acne are: hormonal (increased testosterone), genetic, environmental (collection of infectious bacteria on the skin surface), diet (rich in oil and sugars) and stress. If left untreated, it can worsen leading to loss of confidence and permanent scarring.

How can Acne be treated?

The acne condition can be treated by a combination of topical ointments/creams and procedures.

How do we treat Acne?

Treatment of acne can be achieved in various ways. All acne conditions and skin surfaces may not be treated by one procedure. Each treatment regime is custom tailored for individual patients and depends upon their age, skin condition, hereditary, hormonal, as well as medical and environmental factors. Your dermatologist at Binsina Laser Clinic can advise you the best treatment or combination of treatments suited to your condition. Treatments are carefully selected from the following set of procedures after a thorough examination of the area to be treated.

How do these treatments work?

The HydraFacial resurfacing treatment is a comprehensive skin care procedure, which provides skin cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, lymphatic drainage, and extraction of excess oil and impurities, including Vortex-Fusion® of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that delivers instant results with no discomfort or downtime. The procedure is immediately effective.

LimeLight Facial is a new non-surgical procedure for skin rejuvenation, and ideal for the treatment of acne, acne scarring, redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots on any part of your face, neck and décolleté. The procedure can be customized to your skin type to selectively treat the damaged areas on your skin. There is no pain and no downtime.

The Laser Genesis procedure utilizes non-invasive laser technology to safely, discretely and effectively treat acne, acne scarring, fine-line wrinkles, diffuse excessive redness and help manage large pores. It treats uneven skin texture, and reduces scars. It gives subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Treatments can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of topical anesthetics or gel and there is no downtime.

What types of acne can be treated?

We treat all types of acne. We also treat rosacea, which is a chronic condition characterized by facial redness and occasionally pimples, red domed papules and dilated veins, and in some cases a red lobulated nose.

It generally affects the central face across the cheeks, nose, or forehead, but can also less commonly affect the neck, chest, ears, and scalp. Rosacea primarily affects Caucasians of European descent between the ages of 30 and 60 years. It is three times more common in women than men. If left untreated it worsens over time.

What skin types are suited for these treatments?

All skin types can be treated with these procedures, including Asian and dark skin types.

What treatment is right for me?

At Binsina Laser Clinic, we custom-tailor the acne treatment for each individual patient to obtain the best results. Depending upon the severity of the problem, the dermatologist will prescribe a step-up treatment programme to achieve the desired outcome. Since each case is different, this programme can include either one type of treatment procedure or a combination of different procedures and topical applications designed to clear the acne.

How long does the treatment take?

An average procedure takes 30 minutes in the clinic. A typical course of therapy includes five – six treatments, one to three weeks apart depending upon the treatment regimen. A second course may be needed in severe cases. However, once the acne has substantially subsided, we recommend a monthly top-up treatment to reduce the probability of it recurring, as well as to maintain skin health.

Does it hurt?

Tolerance of pain is very individual and varies from person to person. No anesthetics are required and there is no pain or downtime in any of these procedures.

When will I see the results?

Results depend upon the age and condition of the skin. Some patients start to see early results over a period of 3 – 5 weeks. Others may take longer to see improvements. Further improvements continue to be observed for several months after the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Generally, there are minimum side effects such as slight redness or mild swelling in the treated area, which are generally temporary and dissipate over a few hours. Patients are advised not to expose the treated area to direct sunlight, very hot water and abrasive cleansers for some time. Patients are strongly advised to follow post-care instructions provided by the Clinic to minimize risks and achieve the desired results.

How do Binsina’s treatments compare with those of other laser treatments?

Most laser procedures generally treat one or two skin conditions such as red or brown spots, or skin laxity. At Binsina Laser Clinic, we take a comprehensive approach to individually treating all common skin conditions such as age spots, sun damage, enlarged pores, acne and acne scars, pigmentation and melasma, stretch marks, fine lines and coarse wrinkles, thread and leg vein removal, as well as skin laxity. There is a different treatment approach to each skin condition and the best treatment or combination of treatments can be advised by your dermatologist at Binsina Laser Clinic.
