Portrait Plasma

Portrait® Plasma Skin Regeneration Procedure

Portrait® Plasma is the newest technology for the treatment of facial fine lines, deep wrinkles, superficial to deep skin lesions and pre-cancerous skin growth. It treats sun damaged skin and repairs hyperpigmentation. Manufactured in the United States and FDA approved, it delivers millisecond pulses of nitrogen plasma energy to the skin’s surface through a special applicator, which stimulates and produces new collagen that assists skin regeneration.

How does it work?

Portrait® is not a laser, nor a radio frequency or light-based treatment. It is a plasma energy technology that works both on and below the surface of the skin to modify the skin’s architecture so that new collagen is generated. It sprays nitrogen plasma instead of a laser, where plasma is an electrified gas that is the fourth state of matter after solid, liquid, and gas. It works by heating the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis, which stimulates new collagen growth, and over time leads to tightening of the skin. The process of collagen growth can continue for up to a year.

What conditions does it treat?

Ideal candidates for Portrait® are individuals who are:

  • Considering laser surgery, a face lift and/or plastic surgery
  • Seeking to repair photo-damage, improve the appearance of age spots, or hyperpigmentation
  • Seeking to remove pre-cancerous lesions
  • Desirous of reducing the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles especially around the mouth and the eyes.
  • Wanting to tighten the skin
  • Looking to improve the overall skin tone and texture to recapture a youthful skin quality they have not enjoyed for years
  • Wanting to reduce acne scarring

What areas can it treat?

The Portrait® skin regeneration procedure can be used to treat any affected area on the entire face especially wrinkles around the mouth (peri-oral) and the eye area (peri-orbital). It also treats the arms, hands and decollete.

How long do the treatments take?

An entire treatment can take one to two hours. The first step is to numb the area to be treated by applying an anesthetic cream. This can take 45 minutes to one hour. This is followed by the actual procedure, which can take up to 45 minutes for a full face and about 15 minutes for wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and the eyes.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, you will notice some redness and swelling on the treated area. Over the next 7 – 10 days, the treated area will bronze and eventually peel off. You will not be able to wash the treated area for 24 hours. The healing process is helped by a daily application of Vaseline to the treated area. To reduce itchiness, spray or dab the affected area with diluted vinegar. Avoid direct sunlight for up to 10 days post-treatment; however, apply a sunscreen SPF 50+ if you have to go out. Similarly, avoid wearing make up for up to 3 days (lower energy) and 10 days (higher energy) post-treatment.

When do I see the results?

The Portrait® skin regeneration procedure can be performed at either high or low energy levels. Lower energy treatments do not penetrate the skin as deeply as high energy treatments, and therefore take longer to produce the same result as one single high energy treatment. Higher energy treatments penetrate deeper into the skin and induce a powerful stimulation of collagen leading to skin tightening. However, the downtime with higher energy treatments is seven to ten days, compared with three to four days for low energy treatments.

How do Portrait Plasma treatments differ from other treatments?

The skin resurfacing results of the Portrait® are comparable to those provided by using Fraxel or other aggressive laser resurfacing but the downtime is dramatically reduced. It continues to stimulate collagen production that has a unique matrix and increasing elastin for up to one year with continued improvement to the skin. And, Portrait® is safe and effective. It gives you the results you want without the longer downtime or the risks associated with other treatments. The results are permanent in that they retard the aging process and reverse the signs of skin damage due to pigmentation, acne scarring and sun damage.
